No View, The Radio I
House Flood
Sholto Dobie

Sholto Dobie: ‘House Flood is an audio piece comprising of recordings made in an apartment in Vilnius, Lithuania over the past few months, shortly after moving from London. It combines personal recordings made during this time, and some older; in the kitchen, a friend showering, someone practicing a cathedral organ, a woodpecker knocking, a washing machine, rowing a boat and recordings of my live performances.’

Sholto Dobie is a musician and sound artist working with self-made musical instruments and field recordings, often combining the two in both his live performances and his recorded work. These two approaches are greatly intertwined as they both toy with the warping of time and space, but each in a very unique way. His recorded work functions as a form of textless narrative documenting travels and everyday experiences, collaged together and often combined with his own musical compositions. This results in surreal spatial experiences resembling the way memory mixes in with daily life.
As he will be performing at the opening of the next West exhibition on the 29th of August, I’m very excited we are able to experience his recorded work as well.

About the series: No View, The Radio
The arts are taking a break. Theaters, museums, concert halls and galleries are closed. To a large extent, the art that is so desperately needed right now is inaccessible. Imagine being quarantined at home without films, without books, without music. Though we may not access the art, we can still think about it. The enforced rupture of this isolation can also be an opportune moment to reflect on and from, the arts. Every Friday for the upcoming weeks we will showcase original musical works by different artists, selected by Alex Andropoulos.
